Joey Luo

Bio

I am Joey Jiayi Luo. I graduated from University of Toronto in 2017. When I was an undergraduate, I completed psychology program for the first three years, and I focused on practice of contemporary arts, such as drawing, performance and photography in the last two years. Because of my studies in the studio art program, I found my special interest in visual arts, especially photography and video art. In my leisure time, I like to travel around for culture and arts. After my graduation, I gained some work experience in doing graphic design and digital marketing. In summer 2018, I moved from Toronto to Vancouver to support my family, and began a different life in the new city. Starting summer 2020, I will temporarily be a stay-home mother for my new family member.

Questionaire

Why did you get involved in this project?

I am interested in video art, and I think this is a good chance to engage in some video works after my university life.

Did the one week turn-around for the work help or hinder your creativity?

Certainly helped. Doing something unexpected is motivational in creativity.

How did you feel about working on a project where you didn’t know who you were collaborating with?

Exciting!

Has being involved in the project changed your thoughts on creativity?

This project reminds me that doing something creative does not required us think about the standard, whether it is beautiful or whether it is something big. Creativity can be something subtle and random.
